World Mental Health Awareness Month Activities – October 2019


To support and raise awareness for Mental Health Awareness Month (6-19th October 2019) and World Mental Health Day (10th October 2019) the following has been arranged by OCD & Anxiety Support Hong Kong:


1.     “What is mental health and early warning signs of mental health disorders? How can you get involved in World Mental Health Month?”, 26 September 2019, 1.30pm RTHK Radio 3 with Host Cruzanne Macalligan

A radio broadcast discussing mental health prevalence in HK, warning signs of mental health deterioration, stigma and upcoming events organized by OCDAHK for World Mental Health Day and the Green Ribbon Campaign.



2.     Mental Movement” 9 October 2019, 7.00-8.45PM, Five Elements Habitat HK, Level 13A, Tower One, Times Square 1 Matheson Street, Causeway Bay, H.K. Attendance is free. Please email Kathy@kossie.co.uk to attend this event.


An event organized by Five Elements Habitat to raise awareness of how to have good mental health. There will be a panel discussion with influential speakers in the field of mental health and wellbeing which, Minal Mahtani, (CEO & Founder of OCDAHK) Jessi Chan (Talking Mental) Lahra Tatriele (Five Elements HK) and Natalie Soderstrom(Meditation and Yoga teacher)


3.     World Mental Health Awareness Day- Green Ribbon Campaign, 10 October 2019 (11.00-2.00PM), Central District

Volunteers will be giving out green ribbons to the public in different locations around Hong Kong (Central) to raise awareness and support for those struggling with mental health issues in Hong Kong. Green is the colour of mental health representing hope, strength, support and encouragement for sufferers. The public is encouraged to wear a touch of green or wear a green ribbon for this cause and are invited to take short videos (10-30 seconds) to share views on why mental health awareness is important. This year the green ribbon campaign has grown in momentum and received support and participation from Corporates, NGO's, and other businesses. Their commitment to promoting and improving mental well-being at work is encouraging and a positive step in the right direction to eradicating stigma towards mental illness. They are; Colliers, PIMCO, Bookazine and Stephenson Harwood



4.     OCD & Anxiety Support Group Meeting, October 12 2019

An English speaking support group meeting that runs monthly for adult OCD and Anxiety sufferers to share personal struggles and learn coping skills for anxiety in a safe, supportive, non-judgmental  and confidential environment. Please register by emailing ocdcommunityhk@gmail.com




5.     “Creative Art for Healthy Self Esteem in Youth” 14 October 2019 (7pm), Wild Art Studio, Central, HK

An art therapy workshop designed to boost self esteem in youth delivered by Art therapist, Katie Flowers. Research has shown that art therapy has reduced stress significantly in individuals.  This event is co-hosted by OCDAHK and Wild Art Studio.



6.     How can you overcome Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for Sufferers and Caregivers”?

This is an education talk providing important information about OCD and tips to overcome this disorder. The talk will be delivered by Minal Mahtani from OCDAHK and Matt Sun Chung from Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service. Minal is a therapist that specializes in the treatment of OCD and Anxiety Disorders through Cognitive Therapy and Exposure Response Prevention and Matt is a social worker at Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service (Mental Wellness section)

An information session about the relationship between the food that we eat and our moods. Learn about the types of food that will improve mood and dampen mood.  This talk will be delivered by Teresa Siu, an international wellness speaker, lifestyle educator and consultant .




9.     'Mindfully Fit'- 20 October 2019 (11am-12pm) Mindful Pilates Balanced Body Balanced Mind 8/F On Lan Centre, 11-15 On Lan Street, Central Hong Kong (Donation class) Email Minal at ocdcommunityhk@gmail.com

Participants will learn how to move their bodies and exercise mindfully from observation, relaxation, and by establishing good body awareness. This Pilates class is for all students at beginner or intermediate level. The Pilates class will be led by Karen Leung who combines mindfulness with Pilates.


10.     Art therapy to Reduce Stress and Anxiety for Adults”
